Exercise self restraint on yourself

Swamiji says…

The lure and glitter of excessive materialism that pervades the lifestyle of the present generation … attracts one and all … and you will be swayed by the desire to possess everything that you lay your eyes on. But do you ever think about what will you actually gain by trying to acquire and own everything that you fancy?

In the race to prove that you are better than the best monetarily and have ‘arrived financially’… consumed with jealousy at times at the materialistc progress made by others … in your urgency to impress others with your baubles, you might throw caution to the wind and opt for what appears to be the easiest way out by taking loans in order to fulfil your materialistic desires, without thinking about the stress and tension that the payment of that massive loan could entail. You are willing to burn down your own house in order to live a life of false ostentation and pretence. Shouldn’t your expenditure meet your income !

Wouldn’t it be better if you chose to live a simple and pure life…within your means and resources, constantly conscious of the fact that it is your pure thoughts, peace of mind and good deeds alone that will enable you to set your goals on higher values and focus on Him. You will leave every single object behind you but carry only the good name that you have earned for yourself in this lifetime … when you leave this world.

Remember he only is happy who exercises self-restraint on himself as he saves himself from unecessary suffering and misery as he has drawn a line between ‘need’ and ‘greed’ and understands clearly that he will get only what is ordained, willed and written for him, in this particular lifetime of his, by The Supreme Master.

  1. This is so true…we have forgotten the difference between need and greed…time to awaken when we are blessed to have a Guru to guide us towards the right path.

  2. Swamiji indicates” जितनी चादर उतने पाँव पसारो” we should limit our needs according to the incomes, confine the desires, avoid the unwanted loans to exhibit the worldly materialism articles.
Swamiji’s perennial guidance is boon, His Grace for all of us.
    Jai Gurudev

  3. Very true!!!
Thanks Swamiji for enlightening us on how one should lead the life without forgetting these important aspects of livelihood.
Om Shri Swami Ajaye Gurudevaye Namah 🙏🙏

  5. How true. Lessons from Swamiji can help us to lead a peaceful and meaningful life rather than stressed one.

  6. Om Gurudevaya namah… Another wonderful teaching from our beloved Swamiji. Self restraint and discipline are two aspects when exercised religiously leads to a meaningful life. A life that is worth living and take you closer to The Almighty..

  7. Greed (लोभ) is one of the six greatest vices which provokes to do sin.
Sri Adi Shankarachaarya in his Bhaja Govinda stotram says to give-up the thirst to possess wealth. (मूढ़ जहीहि धनागम तृष्णां…)।
As long as there is ability to earn n save, so long are all your dependants attached to you. Later on, in your old age no body cares to speak even a word to you.( यावद्वित्तोपार्जन सक्त…)
    Take no pride in your possessions… time loots away all these in a moment. (मा कुरु धन जन यव्वन गर्वं हरति निमेषा काला सर्वं…)
To the rich, there is fear even from his own son.(अर्थ मनर्थं भावय नित्यं..)
This is the way with wealth everywhere. Wealth is Calamitous.
Thus, he concludes by blessing us…may you become liberated soon from the Samsara through the discipline of the sense-organs and the mind. You will come to experience the Lord that dwells in your own heart.
Our Swamiji said exactly the same thing. How blessed are the devotees of Swamiji, who guides them in the right path. Pranam Swamiji 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

  11. Need and Greed. Need has four letters and greed has five letters. Nedd is fulfilled much before greed and we have to clearly demarcate between the two.
    Pranaam Gurudev 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

  12. We have to inculcate SAMYAM our day to day life. It will come automatically when we realize that nothing is more valuable than God. So one need not madly run after possessions. Rather one should concentrate on good and benevolent actions and God will automatically look after our needs. Let’s remember that needs have a ceiling , but greed has no ceiling.
